I use Organic Traditions Spirulina Powder and Organic Traditions Chlorella Powder in rotation. One measured teaspoon of spirulina powder, mixed in two ounces of distilled water, and blended together in a small Magic Bullet on one day, and the following day, I mix the same amount of chlorella powder, using the same method. Chlorella is detoxifying fresh-water algae, which is rich in plant-based vitamin B12, omega-3 fatty acids, provitamin A, riboflavin, magnesium, iron and zinc. Spirulina is Blue-green algae, rich in vitamins B12, A and K, riboflavin, thiamine, and copper. Both lower risk factors of heart disease and improve blood sugar management. Chlorella is slightly higher in nutrients. Spirulina harvested in the wild poses a significant risk of contamination. The algae may harbor toxins if it grows in a body of water that’s polluted with heavy metals, bacteria, or harmful particles called microcystins. That being said, Spirulina may worsen autoimmune conditions. Because spirulina boosts your immune system, it may worsen certain autoimmune diseases — such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis — in which your immune system attacks your body.
