How much of this product should be applied before straightening? Should it be rubbed in or just sprayed on the surface of the beard?

I spray 2 or 3 pumps on my fingers and completely cover my beard (goatee). I make sure full coverage to protect from the heat of the straightening comb.

Is this a different formula than the one included with my initial bundle?

Yes, Beard Armor is a slightly different formula than the Heat Shield spray sold in our Beard Straightener Essential Kits. Beard Armor is formulated to be used as both a leave-in beard conditioner and a heat protectant.

What is the max temp of heat that this can help protect beard/head hair from?

Beard Armor is both a heat protectant and leave-in conditioner it includes argan oil which can withstand higher temperatures (smoke point = 420oF) but keep in mind that using any heat protectant can not completely prevent heat damage, especially if you're styling often, so monitor your hair/beard and always moisturize / hydrate with beard oil, beard balm or a leave-in conditioner such as beard armor in-between styling with a heated tool.
