Great option for those looking for a basic keyboard
As someone who wanted to practice piano after not playing for over 8 years, this keyboard is amazing. I wasn't looking for anything fancy and this keyboard provides all the basics that I need. It fits well in my studio apartment and the sound range is perfect for practicing on my own. The keys feel standard, the keyboard looks great, and the sound is comparable to an acoustic piano. The provided music rest works great. I haven't tried out the sustain foot switch because I like pedals more.

Excellent choice for an affordable 88-key portable keyboard
The Yamaha P-45 has an authentic piano sound and key feel that makes it easy to play. It's compact, sturdy, and only weighs 25 lbs. The price is reasonable for a quality Yamaha keyboard.

P-45B is a great choice for beginners.
The P-45 piano being my first piano, I don’t have other models to compare my experience to. The piano has been amazing in almost all aspects. It was really simple to setup the piano and the pedal. The functions which the piano has are easy to understand as well once you read the manual a bit. The piano is easy enough to move around in your own home since its weight wasn’t too heavy. The sound quality of the main piano was also great. The strings were okay at best, but I don’t expect people to buy a piano in order to make music with string instruments. The piano keys all feel nice to play, but they sometimes rubbed on each other and made a sort of sliding sound. This noise wasn’t too noticeable though, so it shouldn’t pose much as an issue. The piano is amazing for its price, and with a bit of practice, anyone can start playing music with the P-45.

As good as advertised
I struggle in making my choice for a digital piano. I’ve owned other Yamaha instruments and have been very happy with their quality. This piano is no exception. Great feel and better sound. Highly recommend.

Decent Piano on a Budget
This piano feels pretty darn close to a real acoustic piano. The keys are fully weighted and the sound is decent. With regard to durability: I have owned this piano now for four years. It still works. But it is not the same as when it was new. After about a year, no noticeable changes. After two years, still going strong. Three years, no problem. At about the four-year mark, the action does noticeably degrade. The keys feel mushier than a year ago and not as crisp. This in and of itself is nothing to complain about on a keyboard with weighted keys. All keyboards with weighted keys will eventually degrade over time and at ~$500 it is not held to the highest of standards. That said, the keys develop a "clicking" sound over four years' time, which is much more annoying than mere mushiness. The "clicking" sound comes from the mechanical action of the key (it does not come from the speaker). The "clicking" sound is very soft and not an issue if you use headphones exclusively. Over-the-ear headphones will block the "clicking" sound. If you do not use headphones, however, the click is loud enough to disturb your internal rhythm and is very, very annoying. I still give the keyboard 4 stars, because I think for the money, it's a good value proposition. Yamaha generally makes good, decent products. Take it or leave it. If you're looking for a decent sounding, decent feeling keyboard to tide you over for a few years, this keyboard is perfectly acceptable. If you're looking for something that will last a decade, you should probably be looking at more expensive equipment.

Great option for many reasons
I have been taking piano lessons as an adult for two years. I recently broke my right knee which prohibits me from sitting at our regular piano. I did not want to stop practicing for seven weeks in my recovery. This keyboard was recommended by my piano teacher. The weighted keys and grand piano feature are amazing. We have it on a low table so I can sit with my right leg extended. Of course, I cannot use the pedal feature, but everything else is fantastic. The sound is amazing and the keys feel like real keys. Once I have recovered, we will move it to a different situation and have it as a second option. Great quality. Easy to use right out of the box.

Tried and true. It's still the best.
I'm going to make the argument that this old keyboard still has Yamaha's best feel to it. I think Yamaha really had it right all along when they were doing their earlier keyboards in the P series like the P45/P71. This feels incredibly solid to me, with a good weight to it... but it isn't too loud, or too clunky and I don't really find myself tired of playing on it after a short amount of time. The other keyboards might be the same or similar "on paper", but if you were to go to a music shop and actually play them you'd be able to tell right away that they still feel a lot different in the real world. This keyboard might be "simple" for today's standards, because it doesn't have bluetooth, "sympathetic resonance" or any fancy effects... but it's versatile and it gets the job done well. It also makes for a perfectly good "MIDI controller with a sound built into it", as I like to call it. You're probably going to be using this your Pianoteq, your Kontakt or your UVI Workstation samples anyway and it works very well for those. Even the cheap or the free instruments you can download online are still gonna blow the $1,500-$4,000 digital pianos out of the water. Yes, even in 2026! So even if you can afford the more expensive ones, I'd still recommend that you get this one for the action and you don't waste your money on anything else. That's my opinion as someone who's been playing the piano for going on thirty years now. It's still the best keyboard Yamaha has ever made and I really feel like every piano/keyboard player should have one of these. This is the one you want to get.

Bought this for my 6 year old who will be starting piano classes. It seems very good. It has 88 keys and weighted. It has a grand piano setting and lovely to hear some classics. Overall pleased with the purchase, speed of delivery and quality.
