Compared them to another brand's 34dB earmuffs
[+] THE REVIEW: I could not decide between this product and another product on Amazon, so I purchased both and compared them. The other product (link provided below) is rated at 34dB (EN 352-1 rating). I cannot find a rating for this product (no where on the box), but I purchased them because of the great reviews. I compared them by putting my HEPA air cleaner to level 3 (of 4) and then wearing each one in turn comparing the noise levels that could be heard. I moved toward and away from the air cleaner to notice any change in the noise levels. THE COMPARISON RESULTS: This product (ClearArmor 141001 Shooters Hearing Protection) out performed the other product just by a little bit. They were very close. I think the difference came down to the ClearArmor's headband applying more equal pressure around the ear thereby making a more uniform seal, thus blocking out more noise. The other product's headband applied more pressure to the bottom of the earmuff thereby allowing noise leakage toward the top of the earmuff. I tried applying pressure with my hands to form a more equal seal, and that helped a little, but still did not equal the ClearArmor. I have not worn these for long periods of time, so cannot speak to that. When I have something to report on that I will update the post. COMPARISON SUMMARY [10/22/2017 update] I thought I would add a little comparison summary: - Comfort: Fnova is more comfortable. - Noise Reduction: ClearArmor is quieter just by a little bit. - Construction of Unit: Fnova is just a little bit better constructed. - Padding: Fnova's padding around the ear is just a little bit softer Basically, if you're looking for comfort if you need to wear them a long time, then I would recommend Fnova. If you're looking for the maximum noise reduction (e.g., use at a shooting range) for shorter period of time, then i would recommend ClearArmor. I compared this product too: Fnova 34dB Highest NRR Safety Ear Muffs - Professional Ear Defenders for Shooting, Adjustable Headband Ear Protection / Shooting Hearing Protector Earmuffs Fits Adults to Kids [+] COMFORT LEVEL AFTER WEARING A COUPLE OF HOURS [10/13/2017 update] I have now worn this product for about a couple of hours and did notice that it became slightly uncomfortable to wear. Surprisingly, the Fnova (product I compared these too) ended up being more comfortable to wear. Remember, the Fnova were just a little less effective in blocking noise, but it turns out they are more comfortable to wear. I did take the advice of others and stretch out the ClearArmor pair for 24 hours, but I have not yet had the chance to wear them to see if it makes them more comfortable to wear. Stretching them out, however, did lesson the pressure against the head, so it would make sense they would now be more comfortable to wear. I will update when I have had a chance to wear them again. [+] STRETCHED THEM OUT FOR MORE COMFORT [10/29/2017 update] I did try to stretch the ClearArmor out like some of the reviewers have suggested by putting a box between them for a day. It did stretch them out a little which made them a little more comfortable, but I still find them a little more uncomfortable than the Fnova to wear. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because the ClearArmor does do a better job at noise reduction, so if you're using them for a shooting range such that you are not going to wear them for hours on end like I do, then the ClearArmor is the better choice. In my experience, I could wear these for a hour with no problems of discomfort. [+] BLOCKS OUT NOISE OF VITA-MIX [3/15/18 update] I purchased a decibel meter ( VLIKE LCD Digital Audio Decibel Meter Sound Level Meter Noise Level Meter Sound Monitor dB Meter Noise Measurement Measuring 30 dB to 130 dB Date Logger Tester ) and measured how loud my Vita-mix is when it is on its highest setting; it is about 100 dB. I tried wearing these to block out the noise and do they work! Wow, is all I can say. Of course I can hear the Vita-mix, but the high pitched noise the Vita-mix makes on high is so muffled that it doesn't even bother me to have it running with these on. I was really surprised. These block out about 34 Db (based on the comparison to the other brand), but they must do an even better job at blocking out higher pitch noises at even higher decibels. Vita-mix should think about including this product inside their product's box. Their customers would be even more happy. No brainer. These are great for the $$$$
These are really good. They are very affordable as of Sept 2015. They have features that are in hearing protection many times over this price point. I use mine for shooting so that is where this review will be focused but these would work perfect for lawn care, motor sports, and many other applications as well. Where I see that this product truly shines is with combat handgun and 3 gunner guys. Without the need for a tight cheek weld on a precision rifle stock..... these are perfect for all of the reasons mentioned below. What makes this great? Pros: * Lightweight. * Tight seal. Will hug this very securely to your head without movement of any kind. Take note 3 gunners! * Greatly reduces noise level. I would definitively say that the 34db rating is accurate. It is the quietest pair that I own. Like deprivation tank quiet. * The ear pieces break down for cleaning and maintenance. This is a key feature because most of the time the ear cups are one piece molded so when the padding breaks down or becomes dirty you usually have to go out and buy another pair. These come apart fully and can be easily maintained increasing the longevity and value of the product by removing two screws. Very well done. * Ear foam on the cups are thick, squishy, and all around outstanding. They are some of the best I have used....gel included * Price. For what you are paying there are so many little things that set it aside from others in this price range. Most of the ppe in this price level are all pretty much the same....this one is not! Cons: (Not Many) * Clunky( see** below for explanation) * Only one color. Black is a good color but I would like to see more options for those who like variety such as myself. ** One negative that I can think of and its not that big of a deal just takes some getting used to, are the bulkiness of the ear cups. They are needed to carry all of the foam that makes it able to be so quiet but in this...they have a weakness. I have trained myself to hold a certain position during precision rifle shooting. I am used to using skinny muffs like Howard Leight etc. I use a very tight cheek weld as I feel that it is important for the repeat-ability of accuracy. The clunkiness of the ear cups bangs and dings a bit when getting my cheek weld in place on the rifle stock. It doesn't really impede the weld once settled in position but it does make an audible boom when you slam for face to the stock and your cups bang off of the side of the stock. This is overcame by taking the time to get settled onto the stock and not jumping back onto target. Not great for speed drills or law enforcement/special military precision shooters...I would choose something else honestly. Although this is not really an issue on an Ar15 or short Ak stocks from my usage. Just the precision stock of my long gun has taken some getting used to. The extra bulk of these earmuffs are somewhat cumbersome but it doesn't hinder the product so far past for me that I would not want to use them. I still think they are pretty much great. I will continue to use them as my go to ppe and will just have to take some time settling down to the precision rifle. Conclusion: These are an all around great investment. I wish purchasing other things in a value category were so easy. These are worth every dime and then some. I would strongly urge others searching for ear muffs for personal protection equipment (ppe) to try these out. I feel that they are a very safe investment that will give you years of quality usage. Fit was a bit snug and tight - otherwise good.
I purchased these hearing protectors because of the high noise reduction rating (NRR 34) hoping that they would provide welcome additional noise attenuation when I am working as a range safety officer at a large indoor range. Upon receiving the ear muffs I noted that the quality appears to generally be good and the protection appears to rely on conventional sound reduction materials forming a thick sound barrier. Wearing the ear muffs revealed that they do indeed provide a good level of protection - reducing ambient noise to a very tolerable level. I can recommend these to anyone who needs such protection; but, with one qualification, the fit. I do have a head that needs one of the larger hat sizes - usually 7 5/8 - but other than that my physical characteristics seem pretty normal. The headgear on these ear muffs was a tight fit for me and the spring pressure normal to the head and ears is very high. this may have been a design decision to help maintain a tight seal and contribute to effective noise reduction; but I found them uncomfortable when worn for more than a short period of time. I think these would be very good for someone who needs protection from intermittent loud noise - like noisy machines operating for brief periods. If the size and configuration of the wearers head and ears is such that these are a comfortable fit then I can highly recommend them as being effective and if they had been a better fit for me I would have given them 5 stars, I do wish the headgear was different so that I could wear them for longer periods - since they are uncomfortable for me though I wear a different set of hearing protectors when I am going to have extended exposure.

Definite winner when tested against other options
I have been doing a lot of woodwork lately with a buddy, a couple of projects around the house. I had a couple of my fiance's earplugs she uses when her dad stays with us (he saws more logs in his sleep than I could do in a lifetime awake), but some of the tools were getting through the ear plugs so I decided to hunt for a solution. When I had shop classes we were always given earplugs in the shop so I sought the best noise-dampening earplugs I could find. I turned to Flents Quiet Time ear plugs (Amazon Item B07HHXGPW6). They were effective when inserted properly, but unfortunately they often worked their way out of proper insertion and were therefore far less effective. But they were $15 bucks for 70 pairs, so I figured I could keep them for my buddies when they work on stuff with me, but I knew these earplugs weren't the everyday option I was looking for. I had seen other options when searching, so I took to the web again. I pulled up other earplugs on Amazon, and the suggested links had earmuffs. I remember seeing them on children at concerts, so I clicked on a couple. (Good enough for developing ears, good enough for mine, right?) All the noise ratings were higher than industrial earplugs and the price was still in that $10-$20 range. I bought a couple of them to test by Pro For Sho (Amazon Item B017RZ45F6) and ClearArmor (Amazon Item B00NKSMPZW). The Pro For Sho is a good set. They're sleek-looking and they fold relatively compact when not in use. I think they muff noise better than the Flents earplugs even when the earplugs are properly inserted. However, I felt that they were tight. They aren't bad for a few minutes at a time, but I did feel the pressure with sustained use. My buddy tried them for a day and said he didn't have that problem, so maybe I just have sensitive temples? For the record, my cap size is S/M and his is M/L. The ClearArmor is a GREAT set. They aren't as low-profile as the Pro For Sho, but frankly no ear muff is going to be invisible; it's not about looking cool, it's about being safe, right? Plus they also fold on the same mechanism that the Pro For Sho does, so they also fit in storage easily. They muffed sound about the same as the Pro For Show, but I could almost forget they were on. The ear pad is soft and comfortable, the headband didn't feel too tight at all, and I could and did wear them all day in the shop. I was going to return the Pro For Sho in favor of the ClearArmor, but my buddy said he would take them. So in the end I guess they were both good buys, just not for me. The earplugs weren't a bad buy--they'll get used--but I won't buy them again. PS if you want all kinds of ear protection, pair the earplugs with the muffs. The internet says it adds something like +5 NRR to the one with the highest rating. I don't know numbers like that, but I did give it a try with the earplugs inserted poorly and the earmuffs on and it was super effective. If I had some comfortable earplugs that stayed in, it would be easy to see myself using both when working on the loudest-of-loud tools in the shop. Ultimately: Flents Quiet Time (Amazon Item B07HHXGPW6): 3 stars. Effective but iconsistent. Pro For Sho (Amazon Item B017RZ45F6): 4 stars. Effective but uncomfortable. ClearArmor (Amazon Item B00NKSMPZW): 5 stars. Effective and comfortable.

Most comfortable, best sound insulation, just a little bulky
I was torn for a few weeks between these, and the following ear muffs and thought it would be handy to order all of them, and share my thoughts, in the vain for saving other buyers, Amazon, the sellers, and all the resources that go into making, shipping, returning stuff that you know won’t work right out the gate. Here goes. I got: * Razors * Pro For Sho * Clear Armor * Peltor Sport Ultimate (by 3M) I wear these in noisy concert halls, on airplanes, at my gym to workout, because they like to blast techno at Lifetime Fitness and forget they’re just a gym, not a nightclub, and when operating machinery (I’m a handy lady landlord), and to sleep when in a snoring environment. In quick detail: -> Peltors are way too tight all around the muff, pressing into my temples and jaw hinge etc (and I tend to have a smaller/medium sized head) - I had a headache within a couple of hours, though in terms of sound insulation, they were the best, very good sound insulation. But I can’t wear them, too painful, so I’m returning them. Overall pretty good quality. Pretty adjustable and fit was otherwise good. Ear muff material seemed a little in the cheap side. -> The Razors are too tight at the base of the ear, pressing hard into my lymph nodes at the intersection between the top of my neck, back of the jaw, under the ear. Pressure in lymph nodes is not good, so they’re going back. They were adjustable, and overall, seemed like better quality than the others. -> Pro For Sho - too soon to tell. On initial fit, they don’t seem too tight so I’m hoping after a longer trial they’ll work because they are sleek (which would be easier to sleep and travel with). The sound insulation is not as good as the Peltor or Clear Armor, but I’m not on a runway or operating that loud of machinery that it really matters that much. Will update review after a longer trial wear. -> Clear Armor - also good fit (not too tight) during first try fitting. They are NOT low profile, so less desirable but the sound insulation is excellent, like the Peltors, and better than the two low profile Razors and Pro For Shos. Will also have to test a longer fitting and see what happens. Stay tuned. Will post videos of the other muffs on their proper sites since I can only upload one video in each spot.

Highly Effective, Great Value
I originally purchased these noise-reduction earmuffs for studying in the library - the whispers and chatter of fellow patrons was highly distracting. In this capacity alone, the earmuffs were 100% effective in eliminating the low-level sound distractions I had been experiencing and therefore merit a five-star rating. They are comfortable and able to be worn for hours at a time without becoming uncomfortable. However, my favorite use for the earmuffs was entirely unexpected. I live in New York City and ride the subway an hour each way to and from school. The subway is loud, the performers which frequent the trains are loud, even listening to music the entire way with my Sennheiser CX300 II CX 300 II Precision Enhanced Bass Earbuds, which themselves reduce a fair amount of the ambient noise, the experience is less than ideal. The game-changing moment was when I decided to wear the ClearArmor earmuffs over my earbuds - the result was nothing short of extraordinary. I can actually LISTEN to my music now in the highly noise-polluted subways of New York City. I'm currently in the library writing this review in a secluded carrel, listening to music with the earmuffs on over them, and I feel like I'm the only person in the building. There is absolutely no ambient sound whatsoever. Save yourself the hundreds of dollars you would spend on noise-cancelling headphones, buy a pair of quality earbuds like those from Sennheiser and pair them with the ClearArmor 141001 earmuffs. You will not regret it. This is honestly perhaps the best purchase I've ever made on Amazon, it has had a tremendous impact on my daily commute and ability to study without distraction, which is critical as I am student in law school. Excellent product. Five-stars all the way.

Great product, good price!---Updated Review=Not such a good price.
***Update to my original review below; busting this down to just three stars since, like another reviewer mentioned (I guess I missed that review before buying these), there looks to be the same type of muffs sold under different names like "FSL Decimate Earmuffs" with the same NRR of 34dB for about $14...a huge percent less, so, now I kind of feel ripped off. : ( I bought both the Clear Armor Safety Ear Muffs and the Howard Leight Impact Sport OD Electric Ear Muffs (22 NRR) in the same order. The reason(s) for this are that I am a brand new shooter and get advice from more experienced shooters (one of whom told me to just get an inexpensive set of high NRR ear muffs rather than the roughly $300-$400 electric muffs I was considering), I wanted a less expensive pair for other, non-shooting uses, and I wanted one pair of electronic muffs in case I do handgun training which requires the electric muffs. At home, I tried each. For fit and comfort I'd give the higher marks to the Clear Armors, they have nice thick padding at the ear pads that feels softer and somehow, whether designed this way or not, seems to cover the ear much better than the Howard Leights, so, to me, it feels like there are suction cups over your ears. NOTE: this fit is with reading glasses on! So, it felt like my ears were totally covered, enveloped even with the reading glasses between the ear muff and my ear/head. I live in a noisy area (another reason to have ear muffs) and it just so happened that a neighbor either mowed or rototilled his yard while I tried both ear muffs in my apartment. The Howard Leights are supposed to cancel out very loud noises yet allow lower level noises to be heard. Well, the Howard Leights still let the loud noise of my neighbor's garden equipment in, they worked better turned off, while the Clear Armors noticeably let less noise in. Also, the Clear Armors have a nicer, more comfortable padded band for the head. I just tried both out at the range, with each I wore foam ear plugs with the muffs over, as is a pretty common practice among shooters wanting to protect their ears as much as possible. The shooting ranges I go to are indoor only, so all of the gun shot sounds are contained rather than dispersed or mitigated by being outdoors. I was shooting next to a group, only 2-2.5 feet away, who was using a shotgun. Again I'd have to give the higher marks to Clear Armor for comfort, fit and ability to protect my ears from more noise than the Howard Leight muffs. Now, I may find more or better uses for the Howard Leights (for example, the training I mentioned where I'd have to hear vocal instructions or commands from a firearm instructor, or in a home defense situation where I may need to hear voices yet protect my hearing from handgun or shotgun blasts), but I'd say if you just want a noise reducing pair of ear muffs for a very reasonable price that work great, get the Clear Armor muffs. Also note that I was shooting a handgun at the range, I don't yet own a shotgun or rifle. The absence of a cutout or area where one might align his cheek against the stock of a long gun is a potential drawback, I can't say if that would be a problem for me since I haven't tested that. The Howard Leight pair does have a slight cut out where a long gun stock might rest.
