Just what I needed!!!
Fed up with screeching commercials, but my fingers always had problems finding the teeny-tiny Mute button on the remote. Often I missed and instead hit the Off button. Now, just a quick hit of the button stops the irritating noise. $19.50 isn't inexpensive, but it's worth it to me. Silence is golden. Product Comments: - The unit is large, as pictured. No problem finding Mute with this one. - Appears well constructed, button has solid feel. It should take a lot of angry pounding. - Very easy set-up. Just move a switch on its underside to "LEARN", point your remote to its underside "LEARNING" portal, press your remote's "Mute" button, wait for the light to blink and return the switch to "USE." That's it. - Works well. No problem with it finding my TV's IR port.

Smash Mute silences commericals. I love it!!!
Great little product, worked perfect, easy as pie to program to my AT&T U-verse remote. You don't have to smash it. A gentle press of the big red button does the trick. To program, just turn it on, aim it at your remote, press the function button you want to copy from the remote, and return the button to off on the Smash Mute. A 5-second project at most. I actually ordered a second one so that both my wife and I can mute all of those ridiculously loud commercials that nobody wants to hear anyway. Highly recommended product since I thought I conceived it. Then did a search on Amazon and found out someone else beat me to the patent office. This would make a great gift for friends too. Buy two of them right off the bat. Great stuff here and pretty well made too.

Every home needs one.
I hate listening to advertising. It's a huge pet peeve of mine. My husband tunes everything out and doesn't always notice when ads are on so he doesn't always mute the TV when they come on. Sometimes he will turn the volume down, but I can still hear people talking. I asked for one of these for Christmas, and then my birthday, but apparently no one wanted to give me the satisfaction of smashing my fist down on a big red button to shut people up. So I bought it for myself and it works like a charm. It took almost no time to set up. Nothing at all like trying to program one of those universal remotes and having to go through a lot of codes or something. Just point your remote at this while it's on "learn" mode, push your remote's mute button, switch this off of learn and you're good to go. Now I just have to learn to use finesse and tact so I don't turn off the volume on programs someone else is watching that I'm not interested in.

Don’t waste your money
This remote was such a disappointment. My elderly mother has dementia and does not know how to use any remote. I purchased this so she could mute the television when those loud commercials start during her game shows (7pm-8pm) or if she wants to watch the hallmark channel…otherwise we stream everything. I was hoping it would also help me from having to mute it (E V E R Y .single. C O M M E R C I A L) myself. I think the invention is genius, but the product is junk. It only works once in a while. You have to hold it up and point it STRAIGHT at the tv (and it still doesn’t work the way it should) … I then found that if I hold down for a couple seconds then let off it will work a little better (but it’s still not every time) - I tried changing the batteries too, because you never know. All in all I would not recommend this to anyone, wasted money, and I am now on the look out to see if I can find something similar. I need to find her something that has a larger mute button, so her fingers are not touching more than one thing at a time.

Good remote for Alzheimer's patients
This is an excellent product! We are adapting its use for my wife's dad, who lives with us and has Alzheimer's. He spends a good amount of time watching TV while my wife and I work from home (especially during the pandemic). He needs to get up frequently to visit the bathroom. We programmed the remote to 'pause' the Tivo rather than mute it. He can manage this large red button fine, so whenever he wants to pause the TV he hits it, comes back and hits it again, and away he goes. Independent living! One enhancement would be an RF version. The remote uses IR, like most basic remotes do, so it requires line-of-sight to the TV to work. RF remotes (used with Tivo and other devices) do not require line of sight. Often my father-in-law will place a glass or something in front of the one-button remote and he then needs help using it. If it were an RF remote that wouldn't happen. I would like to suggest that the manufacturer offer an RF version of the remote, or modify this one to function with RF and IR both.

Cool idea, just doesn’t work with our setup.
Sets up very easily. However our tv uses the Sonos sound bar, hence, no remote for the sound bar, no remote to set up the sound for mute. Works great if we’re using the tv speakers only.
